Offered: Part 1 of this course is offered in the Fall term of each year, and Part 2 is offered in the Spring. Completion of Part 1 is recommended but not required to enroll in Part 2.

Prerequisites: Students should be women above the age of 17.

Summary: An in-depth study of the lives of the first thirty companions discussed in the book Stars in the Prophet’s Orbit. Students will learn their stories, draw conclusions about Islamic precepts from their lives, understand their relationship to the Prophet (s) and derive personal lessons from their lives.

Course Requirements: Students are expected to attend the weekly online lectures, complete one or more weekly assignments, read the assigned material, write one critical analysis paper, and review and sit for a final exam.

Summary: An introduction to the concept of tazkiya, or purification of the self/heart in Islam. It is a beginning look at diseases of the heart and sins of the tongue as well as the relationship between the two. Students will learn some general cures and understand some of the skills necessary to begin the path of tazkiya.

Course Requirements: Students are expected to attend the weekly online lectures, complete one or more weekly assignments, read the assigned material, write one research paper, and review and sit for a final exam.

Summary: Take a journey with the Quran, gain deeper understandings of its words and derive lessons from Allah's (swt) words. Each term, students will be guided through an in-depth study of a surah from the Holy Quran and reflect upon the lessons learned from its verses as they sit with one of our modern scholars of the Holy Quran.

Course Requirements: Students are expected to attend the weekly online lectures, complete one or more weekly assignments, read the assigned material, write one critical analysis paper, and review and sit for a final exam.
